introduction to mindfulness
Mindfulness is a way of living that cultivates openness, curiosity and attentiveness. It’s about slowing down and being present with each moment — creating space to connect deeply and meaningfully with ourselves, with others and with all aspects of our lives. *heart wide open* introduction to mindfulness sessions include exercises, conversation and resources designed to give participants a range of tools and experiences and a “way in” to the practice of mindfulness. The intention of these sessions is to cultivate a fertile, supportive and nurturing environment for creating personal transformation — one breath at a time! This program can be delivered as a 2 hour stand-alone session or as a series of sessions.

Our designing a heart-ful life offering is an invitation to imagine, design and create “the more beautiful world our hearts know is possible”. Through reflection, exercises and conversation, we will examine our priorities, values, and passions, and discover ways to make choices, build resilience and create space in our lives! This program can be delivered as a 2 hour stand-alone session or as a series of sessions.
introduction to kirtan
Kirtan is an ancient Indian yogic practice of singing or chanting from the heart. It’s a celebration, a meditation, a rejuvenation — and a powerful way to connect both with yourself and with community. In this session, we will explore exercises designed to open up and relax our voices, we will share some of the history and meaning behind the chants, discuss some of the known benefits, as well as sharing personal experiences with the transformative power of chanting. Handouts and lyric sheets will be provided. This session is intended as an add-on to the kirtan to go! (See our monthly kirtan for more details)
kirtan to go!
This is a portable version of our popular kirtan evening! *heart wide open* kirtan sessions are usually 1.5 – 2 hours long (sometimes with a short yoga warm up before hand, and ending with time for sharing and socializing after). The chants presented by *heart wide open* are written in Sanskrit (the ancient language of the Indian Vedic texts) and are often invocations or celebrations. They carry messages of love, peace, and community wellness. They are typically short and cyclical, making them easy to learn, or delivered in a call-and-response style, making them easy to follow. Participants are asked to bring a cushion to sit on (and a yoga mat if desired). Having some chairs available is also recommended. (See our monthly kirtan for more details.)
transforming emotional blocks into creative action

Feeling overwhelmed by recent global or personal events? We often see our emotions as “negative” or “positive”, when actually, all emotions give us energy and insight that we can tap into. In this experiential and interactive session, we will explore ways we can use our full range of emotions to energize the act of transformation that will help us create what Charles Eisenstein calls “the more beautiful world our hearts know is possible”. By accessing and working with our emotions, we can gain a deeper understanding of self, relationships with others and how we impact our community. The session will be grounded in both contemplative/mindful practices as well as tools for structured listening/sharing. This program can be delivered as a 2.5 hour stand-alone session or as a series of sessions.
meditative hand drumming
Almost all world cultures have a tradition of hand drumming. In many cultures, this tradition includes meditative or trance-like rhythms played on frame drums. This session, focusing on the meditative qualities of hand drumming, is an invitation to open our hearts and clear our minds as we journey through various mesmerizing grooves! Basic drum strokes and techniques will be covered at the beginning of the session. A medium-sized frame drum (or bodhran) is ideal if available. If not, we have a set of small “practice” drums that can be rented. Beginner and experienced drummers welcome! This program can be delivered as a 2 hour stand-alone session or as a series of sessions.

Does your group or business want to deepen the connection between members, revitalize or reframe its shared goals or values, energize and stimulate effective and inspiring communication? *heart wide open* offers a “portable” version of our monthly conversation circles that can be customized to your needs. These focused, yet relaxed, evenings begin with the reading of an inspiring quote followed by a few minutes of reflective silence. The gently facilitated discussion may take place in pairs, in small groups, a larger group or even solo in a journal format. Evenings often end with an opportunity for casual conversation, shared tea and healthy snacks. (See our monthly conversation circles for more details.) This program can be delivered as a 2 hour stand-alone session or as a series of sessions.
writing from the heart

In this heart-led writing session, *heart wide open* offers space for guided writing practice by sharing inspiration and exercises designed to deepen the connection with our innermost voice and with the vast collection of images and ideas that are still but tiny seeds within us! Together, we will practice cultivating the combination of gentleness and tenacity needed to truly listen to ourselves (as well as those around us), to learn to trust what we hear, and to allow our words to pour smoothly onto the page. Participants are asked to bring a notebook and a comfortable pen/pencil. This program can be delivered as a 2 hour stand-alone session or as a series of sessions.
